In the midst of this unprecedented crisis, many of us have come across various posts depicting an array of activities many individuals are involved in. This includes homeschooling, baking and working remotely (just to name a few). I also decided to make a vision I had almost two years ago come into fruition by creating a mentoring programme for young adults after my positive experience. As a twenty something-year-old, from my standpoint, mentoring among students ought to be given more recognition especially with the plethora of benefits it brings to not only the mentee but also to the mentor. Many times, there are many young adults out there wanting that extra push, that extra guidance, that other perspective from a neutral person who is not necessarily their family member, or their lecturer.
An individual that can provide guidance in terms of choosing the right career path and one that can assist with their overall personal development. On the other side, there are many individuals with vast industry experience and advice eager to share this with many upcoming young adults ready to listen. However, again find it difficult to locate the right avenues to go through to reach their audience. During one of my reading sessions, I came across a profound statement by John Paul Dejoria: “success unshared is failure” – a view I strongly believe is shared by many successful people out there, those in the limelight and those who are unknown to us. This is where Mentornect comes in. We aim to eliminate any apparent barriers there are in finding a mentor or mentee and match students between the ages of 18-30 with our mentors from different industries. We also offer free advice and content through our Mentornect Community on our site. With various telecommunication applications available to us, the ability to partake in mentoring is closer more than ever.
My final words to every young person out there feeling lost in these challenging times is to know that you are not alone. Be persistent in getting those grades, be determined to start that business venture irrespective of what’s going on around us. Seek help in attaining your goals if need be – it is not a sign of weakness but rather bravery for taking such a bold step. Remember that every individual has the capability to birth greatness including yourself. From myself and all of us here at Mentornect, we do hope that our content acts as a useful guide for you and if you are already enrolled on our programme this is a start to a life-changing journey.
